Melody's Miscellaneous: Interview with Country Music's Megan Barker

Country music recording artist Megan Barker came into this world with songwriting in her blood. Born in Nashville, TN, Megan’s father wrote songs for legends like Ronnie Milsap, Barbara Mandrell, Hank Williams Jr. and more. By the age of 16, Megan was living in Las Vegas and performing live music professionally on the world famous Las Vegas Strip, and opening concerts for superstars like Lee Brice, Montgomery Gentry, Eli Young Band and more.

Since moving back to her hometown of Nashville, TN in 2017, Megan has performed at famed venues and showcases like The Bluebird Cafe, Whiskey Jam, BusCall, Revival, CMA Fest and more. In 2018, Megan released her highly anticipated EP "Leather Souls," produced by Brad Hill (Maren Morris, Brothers Osborne), which has garnered over half a million streams to date. That same year, Megan started the popular weekly live show in Nashville, Jammin In Jammies, which features hit songwriters performing their hit songs in pajamas.

We recently met up with Megan to chat about what she's been up to this year, as well as what she has planned for 2022.

Hi, Megan! It's nice to finally meet you. Your dad, Bobby Barker, was a well-known songwriter in the industry. What skills did you learn from him that you now incorporate in your writing?

My dad taught me so much. Number one being that it’s all about the song. He taught me little things about songwriting like writing out what you want to say first, then going back for the rhyme later. He also taught me that being good to people is what really matters in this industry.

If you could write for any country music artist, who would you choose and why? Keith Urban is my hero. There are tons of artists I would be so honored to write for, but he might be at the top. Your music video for your current Christmas single “Missin Mistletoe” premiered on CMT.com. As an artist, what does it mean to have such a large platform support your work? Having CMT behind me is something I’ve always dreamed of. To have them know who I am and support what I do, well that tells me I’m on the right track.

Now that the new year is here, what can we expect from you in 2022? 2022. Lots of new music and content. I’ve had so much fun making video content this year. There will definitely be more of that. AND MORE SHOWS. I can’t wait to get out on the road and see new and old friends. Let’s go!
