Recorded in Nashville, Tennessee, the song packs a sinister punch without losing its mainstream appeal.
"I'm so excited to finally be able to share the studio version of 'Small Town Saturday Night' with fans of my music. The enthusiasm and encouragement I've received online and at live shows to release this one has been truly amazing,” said Mary Heather Hickman. “I'm very thankful there is a space and appreciation from country music listeners for this type of dark and edgy, story-driven song."
“When Mary Heather and I wrote ‘Small Town Saturday Night’ a few years ago, I knew we had something special. I think it’s equal parts funny and macabre and definitely highlights our shared sense of humor - I can’t think of anyone else I could have written this with,” shared co-writer Stefanie Joyce.
“This is one of my favorite songs of Mary Heather’s that we’ve cut together, and I really think it personifies her. I love the mood and feel that we were able to convey,” explained producer Tyler Bell.
“...Parker’s makin’ more money than he did at the mill
Since he got himself a girl with a script for pills
My my, he’s got the goods tonight
Mama always said he was a no-good kid
Now she calls him up when she needs her fix
My my, she’s waitin’ on him to stop by
Fake nails flickin on an ashtray
Keepin’ 3/4 time
Nowhere to be, now it’s payday
So she’s gonna get real high
It’s a small town Saturday night
Another small town Saturday night...”
